Quiet and peaceful hidden gem

This intimate hotel property is appreciated by guests as a quiet and peaceful hidden gem. What’s special about it: the beautiful architecture and the exquisite style in each of the six rooms. Sol e Luna is meticulously well kept with great attention to detail in the use of stone, tiles, wrought iron, wooden shuttered doors and windows, and decoration. New owners in 2014 did substantial upgrades in all rooms and outdoor facilities. With major upgrades and renovations, the owners Sol e Luna owners added decidedly a modern luxury twist to the 6 suites. The restaurant keeps its romantic elegant style and was upgraded recently with a tropical relaxing double pool, a sun deck and lounge area at the entrance of the premises.

Sol e Luna Suites – Communal Facilities for all Guests

In the center of the guest house is a communal lounge seating area, a swimming pool and a sun deck. The pool area is small, but very peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are either a few steps down from the pool (Jasmine and Nacre) or a stone stairway up on the upper level of the property (Vanille, Cannelle, Coco Tiare and Mango).

Each suite has its own distinctive personality, but ALL units offer:

  • A/C, cable TV, WiFi, bathroom with shower, and more or less cooking facilities.
  • The 4 suites feature a king size bed, the 2 studios have a queen bed
  • All rooms have a terrace, a balcony or patio, and access to the pool.
  • Maid service, towels, beach towels provided for all units
  • Each of the six units has its own personality and is carefully decorated.

Suites Nacre and Jasmine are located on the first level above the restaurant, and have the shortest climb. The others rooms are one more level up. They are reached by stone stairs, thus the Sol e Luna property is not suitable for people with disabilities or families with young children.

SUITE NACRE  is on the first level of rooms, as soon as you passed through a lockable gate. It is the beautiful interior and the relaxed, intimate setting of the patio outside that make the Nacre Suite so appealing for honeymooning couples or anyone who wants a more romantic room.

Lovely Inn for the Independent Traveler
We just spent four lovely days at Sol e Luna while enjoying the island. I have read many of the reviews and decided that the negative ones are from people who want hotels with many services. We are independent travelers and enjoy staying at small family-run inns and guest houses (not hostels!), similar to B&Bs in the U.S. without the gourmet breakfasts. Yes, the rooms are a sideline of the restaurant and the owner is not always there, but we were always able to find someone to help us with pleasure. Yes, there are two (not hundreds of) flights of stone steps up to the rooms, but Terry offered to help us with our luggage if we needed it. I wouldn’t stay here, however, if you have mobility issues. Our a/c worked, the king-sized bed was comfortable, and the bathroom was modern with all amenities. Daily housekeeping was excellent. The access to the stairs is off to the side of the restaurant. You don’t have to parade through the diners to get to your room. We especially enjoyed the balcony outside our room. There are a microwave, mini-frig, and sink for preparing a light breakfast or storing drinks. The coffeepot is a Nespresso — bring pods or buy them from the hotel. We didn’t buy the E20 breakfast basket, but bought pastries and fruit at the nearby market. The inn provided beach towels. Sol e Luna is a quiet, beautiful retreat for travelers who want a different experience from the standard hotel. It’s not really suitable for families with children. We had our phones, the Wifi worked, and we found restaurants online. You do need a car, even though Grand Case isn’t far away. You will want to explore the various bays, towns, and parks. Waiting for a taxi would be a huge waste of time. And do dine at the restaurant if you want a delicious upscale dinner in a lovely setting.

Just Fantastic!
We spent a week at this awesome place and it was just perfect. Christian and Bridgette have built a very special place. I cannot forget about Terry who is the Maitre D and does all the special things like help carrying our luggage up to our room and suggesting which beach to go to etc.We rented the Nacre suite which has a comfy king bed , large dressing room , outdoor but covered eating area, full size fridge, 2 burner stove , microwave and lots of pots and glassware. Our unit was cleaned spotless every day with clean towels and also beach towels. we had a nice hot tub and a large lounge area that could accommodate at least 10 -15 people if you wished. We were 5 minutes from Orient beach and 5 minutes from Grand Case. They even have a little pool that we would go to late in the afternoon and lounge around there for awhile. We were 5 minutes to Simply market for groceries and a 2 minute walk to a little bakery. The grounds are beautiful and are kept up by a gentleman who loves plants. We also ate at their restaurant which is also a 5 star. I could go on and on but if I do then everyone will book a room at this place and we will not be able to stay there again. When we go back to St. Marten we will not stay anywhere else unless it is free and I still might stay at this very special place.

A piece of paradise!
Excellent property and restaurant! Me and my husband stayed there for 1 week last month and enjoyed every moment. Christian, the owner upgraded us to Nacre Suite and it was a very good deal . We had a small kitchen outside and a beautiful lounge area. My husband rented a car and it was really easy to get around. Loved the place and our friends who stayed at Radison wished they stayed there too! It’s definitely a quiet and romantic place.

Better than ever
This was our third stay at Sol e Luna, the last time being 5 years ago. The owners have clearly invested in the hotel side of their business, which also includes a fine restaurant. The suites have been beautifully upgraded. Due to availability, we split our time between two of them: Mango, the largest, and Nacre, smaller but very charming with its hot tub and beautiful platform bed. Both were lovely experiences. We arrived late, but the owner was there to greet us and show us around our suite, which was more of a condo than a hotel suite. Maid service was friendly and reliable. The little boulangerie down the road is still there to provide cafe au lait, croissants, and the occasional encounter with a baby goat. We love this place. A little out of the way, but definitely a gem.

A Secret Gem
My husband and I have been to this guest house twice. It is very clean, quiet but close to many activities and beaches. There is a small private pool for an early swim, for an after the beach dip, or for an entire “at home” day!!!We especially love that this guest house is close to Grand Case and Marigot which enables us to select from a huge variety of eating establishments in the evening with an easy ride to and from dinner. I would highly recommend renting a car to get around though. Also, from this place, it is an easy walk to Orient Beach for a bit of early morning exercise or a late afternoon sunset stroll.

Even better than last year!
We so enjoyed our stay at Sol E Luna last year, that we booked it again this year. But this year was extra special because we were on the island for our daughter’s wedding. We probably could have rented a villa for all of us, but when we were each settled into our own rooms, it felt exactly like a villa! Out of the 6 rooms/suites, we took up 4 of the rooms & Christian & his family were in the other two. It was awesome! What a beautiful property. As you can see on their website, each room has a distinct personality & feel to it. My two favorites are Jasmine (where we stayed) & Nacre (where the bride & groom stayed). Everyone else loved their rooms, too! After staying in Suite Jasmine, I’m totally spoiled by its outdoor living space. I can’t picture staying at any other place! Every night before bed, we’d sit out on the deck enjoying the beautiful Caribbean nights. While I love an ocean view, the view from our room at Sol E Luna can’t be beat. The pool is just the right size for taking an early morning or evening dip. The water is nice and warm. The grounds surrounding SEL are gorgeous. The gardener comes every evening. Everyone who works at SEL is friendly & accommodating. I totally love our housekeeper. She speaks very little English & is always smiling. Always! The owners are straight-up people & are a pleasure to deal with. I delight in seeing them. I wrote a more expansive review last year….go take a peak! ((it’s posted under the Jasmine Suite)) In a nutshell, Sol E Luna is the place for us on the French side. They’re making some renovations soon (September), so check out the website again in October! Room Tip: The biggest rooms are Jasmine, Mango & Nacre. If you like outdoor living, it’s Jasmine.
