A Little Piece of Paradise
The pictures do not do this property justice. Close but to actually stand one the deck overlooking the blue green Caribbean waters of Oyster Pond and Dawn Beach… Just beautiful. From our arrival meeting, escort, grocery shopping and tour of the house by ReMax staff, to the well appointed accomodations… simply perfect. The grounds, garden and house were very clean and up to my wifes standards for sure. The house is typical Carib concrete. Functional but different if you have never stayed in one. The bedroom is spacious and air conditioned.. only room in the house with AC but because of the constant breeze… you don’t miss it. We did not take advantage of the kitchen as much as we should have. I suggest loading up on some breakfast items and maybe a couple of meals at the grocery store. There are quite a few restaurants around Oyster Pond and opportunity for some light shopping at two small grocery stores one on each side of the marina. A variety of places to eat lunch and dinner. Owners Tip Sheet was spot on in that regard. Nice dipping pool… not heated and a little cool on a hot day but not bad. I think you could spend the entire week just looking out over the hillside. Windy… always a stiff breeze. Location… Perfect. We drove somewhere almost everyday. In fact everything seemed to be just 15 or 20 min away. Make sure you Explore! We rented a Jeep. I was glad because the drive up the hill to the Villa was steep… The villa website has a video.. but again… does not do it justice. We got used to it quickly… fun actually. Can’t say enough about the island. We went to every town. Enjoyed all of them. Never found that one traffic light… and only saw a couple of Stop Signs. Somehow the traffic works.. funny. I guess since we can’t wait to go back… that probably says it all. Enjoy Bill & Nan

A great place for two!
We have stayed at Hope Cottage six or eight times. It is perfect for us. The shutters in the bedroom keep out morning light so we can sleep as late as we like. The house has a beautiful view, is conveniently situated high above Dawn Beach and Oyster Pond. For a relaxing vacation or a great base from which to explore St. Maarten, we recommend Hope Cottage.

A perfect aerie
The road up to Hope Cottage is long and steep but the view makes it worthwhile. The only noise you will hear in this private spot is from the wind. All the windows are screened and louvers let a breeze through. There are also shutters that keep out the sunrise. This is all together an idyllic retreat. The plunge pool (unheated) and garden are well maintained. Everything in the property description is as advertised

Great Holiday Getaway
Stayed in December 2015 — Just save yourself some time looking further and book this property….it is perfect for a couple or a couple with small kids to get away from it all. This is well appointed cottage that is perched high upon a hill with commanding views of Oyster Pond and the ocean. The owners recently gave the bathrooms a full renovation and they are top notch. The terrace and garden with the plunge pool was a fantastic place to just hang out during the day or evening to just lounge soaking up the sun or watching the boats come and go in the harbor below. The neighborhood is secure, with gated access and security at the main road and a further second automatic gate on the drive way to the house. The location in general was secluded without being isolated. Oyster Pond is sort of off the beaten path for the throngs of holiday tourists and Cruise Ship folks, but it still has plenty of amenities. There are restaurant options right in Oyster Pond that range from pizza and beach bars to fine dining. There are also several stores to grocery shop or pick up things like sunscreen..etc. The Westin at Dawn Beach (bottom of the hill) had the nearest ATM and it dispensed only US Dollars. USD were universally accepted everywhere on the Island. We found it was common on the French side that USD were accepted at par with Euro (at least while we where there..which meant about a 10% discount if you used USD). As Oyster Pond is right on the French/Dutch border; Marigot, Grand Case, great beaches, as well as all the big Dutch side attractions are all just short drives away.(You will need a car if you rent here) If you’re looking to go off island, Oyster Pond has Voyager Ferry service to St. Barths, Anguilla and Saba. All in all it was a great trip and we’d book this place again. You’ll love it.

Exceeded expectations
Stayed in December — We stayed here over the holidays and it was the highlight of our vacation. The views from the cottage are incredible. I could have stayed out on the deck relaxing every day, just enjoying the tranquility and view. The cottage itself is quite nice and the bathrooms were recently renovated and very deluxe. The area is very windy at that time of year and being so high up made it challenging to eat outside. The storm shutters rattled at night from the wind too but still worth it. The entrance to the gated neighborhood can be easily missed so we soon learned to watch for landmarks. The road up to the cottage is very steep but worth it for the view and privacy. You do need to drive to go anywhere so we tried to eat in Oyster Pond at night and go exploring elsewhere during the day. Dinghy Dock Bar was a fun place to grab a drink and meet interesting people coming into the harbor. Canoa was a very nice restaurant – ask for an outside table if the weather permits and get a reservation if it’s a peak season.

We’ve returned five times!
Hope cottage has become our favorite spot in the Caribbean. While my wife can sleep as late as she likes because shutters keep the bedroom dark, I awaken, make coffee and enjoy breakfast and view on the deck next to the private pool. When she gets up we read or play Scrabble until driving a short distance to a beach or Philipsburg. Marigot and Grand Case are a bit further. Hope Cottage is convenient, relaxing, and beautiful. There are many wonderful restaurants near by. The only thing we miss is that before the Westin Hotel was built, Dawn Beach had a wonderful beach bar named Scavenger’s. We’ve recommended it to friends.

Hope Villa is as advertised and much more. John makes the process very simple and you could not ask for a better place to honeymoon or vacation with your significant other. The property was clean, safe, and beautiful. Honestly zero complaints. We would recommend to everyone we know! Thanks!

Beautiful property with an amazing view
We had a great stay at Hope Cottage and plan to return again the future. The property is at the top of the hillside overlooking Dawn Beach. With perfect views, an amazing view and the peaceful sounds of waves, this was the ultimate spot for relaxation! The pool was a little on the cool-side, but was refreshing and my favorite way to start each day. We rented an economy-sized car which was adequate, but plan to rent something with a bit more power next time. The road to Hope Cottage is extremely steep. Location was ideal – 15 minutes to either of the main towns and just on the border of the French/Dutch side. Lovely property, amazing view and great location!

Get away to Hope Cottage and watch the sun come up
I arrived at Hope Cottage and the view was much more than you see on the website. It was stunning. I stayed there for ten days and I think John and Susan have some of the best views on the island. I needed a quiet get away but still wanted reasonable access to the rest of the island beaches and all that it had to offer. Hope Cottage had that and more. Drink a cup of coffee on the deck and watch the sun come up over Dawn Beach. The breeze in the afternoon keeps the temperatures tropical. I really felt like I was on top of the island. From the car you walk thru the lush garden to the cottage. On the beach side it totally opens up over Oyster Pond to the eastern Atlantic and the Caribbean. Its really an enchanting place and fits right in as a tropical hide away. The management staff were as friendly as can be and made me feel right at home. The cottage is so comfortable it was several days before I made it out to tour the island. It had everything you will need. If you like to cook pay a visit to a grocery store and bakery on the French side and you wont have to leave the house, or visit one of the many restaurants within a few minutes drive.

Hope Cottage – We would give it 5 stars!
We had a wonderful stay at Hope Cottage. The listing description was accurate regarding the rentals appearance, amenities and location. The property was very clean and well maintained. We would and have recommended this property highly – we hope to return. We loved the location overlooking Oyster Bay – and found it convenient to Orient Bay as well as Marigot and Grand Case. Oyster Bay itself had 4 restaurants we liked and a little grocery store to buy coffee and fresh croissants and muffins. We would give it 5 stars!

Excellent Villa in St. Maarten
We greatly enjoyed our vacation in St. Maarten and especially our experience at this villa. It provided some unforgettable memories. Perched high atop one of the many dramatic hillsides, this property features beautiful, panoramic views of Oyster Bay and Dawn Beach. Walking through the garden entrance with flowers/plant life on both sides, you immediately get a sense of privacy and solitude. The accommodations inside are nicely done – spacious master bedroom with en suite, adequate kitchen, comfortable living room, etc. But clearly the star of the show is the outdoor space, as is appropriate for an island vacation. There is an expansive terrace and balcony area on one side, part shaded and part open, and a charming little pool on the other side. The best of the vacation was waking up to those views, taking a dip in the pool and relaxing outside all day long. The trade winds provide a nice balance to the sunshine and the views are spectacular. At the same time, there are plenty of nearby shops, restaurants and beaches that are just a quick drive from the villa. We liked having the views, peace and quiet while still being close enough to the action when you want to venture out. It’s a great combination that we would highly recommend!

Everything has exceeded our expectations. While the photos are beautiful, the views and villa itself are even more beautiful and spacious, with great separation of spaces (living room and full bath at one end, kitchen in the middle and master bedroom and full bath at the other end), cathedral ceilings, surrounded by windows and French doors that offer up wonderful light and breathtaking views. The kitchen is so well equipped there is even a springform pan! The property is very secure. There is a gate at the road leading up to the villa with a 24/7 security guard, and then another gate operated by your remote control, then a locked gate to the entrance to the property, and all the doors have keyed locks and all the windows and doors have electrically controlled exterior rolling shutters from top to bottom. The housekeeper is available every day but we really only asked her to come one day, and the pool/gardner comes 2/3 times during the week and keeps the grounds looking luscious. Our hosts also suggested restaurants, which we can also recommend: Infinity at Oyster Bay Beach Resort (just down the hill when you want a good meal close by), Tropicana in Marigot, Bachus at Hope Estate between Orient Bay Beach and Grand Case (tres expensive but tops), L’Oasis in Oyster Pond, and one we discovered, Palm Beach at Orient Beach. The villa is impeccably clean and well maintained. It is always delightfully cool there, with ceiling fans in every room. Now for the road in/out. The road is rough and VERY steep and has a couple of quick double hair pin turns that had us cringing at first but then laughing our way up and down. We never felt comfortable enough to navigate the road at night (we’re both 71, not frail and quite adventurous otherwise) but that just meant big lunches out and cozy dinners in which we loved cooking in that fabulous kitchen, looking down on the twinkling lights of Oyster Bay. What a fabulous week. What helpful hosts! Would we recommend this villa to friends and relatives? You bet! Would we go back? We’re already figuring out when. Thank you, John and Susan!

Perfect St. Maarten Vacation Rental Home!
Our stay at Hope Cottage far exceeded expectations! The house has all the amenities you could ask for including a full kitchen, outdoor gas grill, swimming pool, outdoor and indoor eating areas and cable. The property has incredible views and is close to beautiful beaches (Dawn beach, at the bottom of the hill, was our daily spot). The highlight of our trip was going on a snorkeling trip with Captain Alan’s Snorkeling Adventure which was conveniently located a short 5 minute drive from the house. We cannot wait to go back to Hope Cottage!
